Job Description:
The Voltas publishes peer-reviewed writing across Digital Design, Immersive Design, and Digital Art. We’re building a reliable reviewer network and are appointing panel members for Game Art, including environment art, character art, materials, lighting, optimisation, and pipeline research.
You will review submissions such as: real-time art workflow studies, production case studies, technical art research, asset creation and optimisation, art direction analysis, and education research linked to game art.
What you will do
- Assess originality and contribution to the field.
- Check study design and methods (including practice-based research and mixed methods).
- Check literature use and referencing.
- Review clarity of images/figures and whether they support the argument.
- Evaluate results, discussion, and whether conclusions follow from evidence.
- Flag ethical issues, conflicts, or missing declarations.
- Provide concise, constructive feedback for authors and editors.
- Recommend accept, revise, or reject (final decision sits with the editor).
What you need
- Advanced degree in Game Art or a closely related field.
- Strong grasp of research ethics and review standards.
- Strong writing and the ability to give direct, usable feedback.
- Able to meet deadlines and keep reviews confidential.
- Willing to disclose your full name and affiliations to the publisher.
- Comfortable using online submission/review systems.
Working pattern
- Remote, freelance, per-review basis.
- Typical turnaround: 7 to 14 days (faster reviews available by agreement).
